Crypt

Pushing aside the false panel on the radiator reveals a hidden staircase plunging into darkness. After a considerable descent a forgotten laboratory is found far below the surface. Above exist more modern facilities still bustling with activity but breaching this protected vault is truly a step back to a time when science was feared and illegal experiments and operations took place in hidden cells.

Within the chamber the senses are assaulted by powerful smells and an almost unbearable heat from nearby steam tunnels. Old shelves hold jars of all sizes coated thickly with dust, their insides obscured, as if hiding in shame from their loathsome contents. Other shelves contain the desiccated remains of larger creatures, too big for the jars.

What unpleasant procedure had to be carried out here, deep underground? What dark corner in the study of life was illuminated by the dead observed so carefully here?
